There are those at the forefront of new tech, pioneers leading the way forward with their almost blindingly bright (yet low power)
LED torch and there are also the Oldskool vigilantes, the ones who cling on to their analogue gear refusing to ‘go digital’ and follow everyone else into the abyss of ones and zeros.
Technology has undoubtedly played a major role in the music industry over the years and now with the influx of both
digital equipment & software, the music industry has truly been digitized. But is this a good thing or bad? On one hand modern tech has made the music making process simpler, smoother, and more productive than ever before. Tasks that used to take hours can be done in minutes, music libraries can be larger than ever due to advances in digital storage, advances in computer power have allowed for affordable hardware controllers to be developed, and many other factors have been major contributors to the impact that modern technology has had on the music industry.
But are musicians really embracing new technology and pushing it to its potential? Well some are, as an example take a look at London based 2006 UK Beat Box Champion ‘
Beardyman’.
His unique combination of music technology with his amazing beatbox & vocal skills prove that there are still new grounds yet to be broken in music, even in the modern day where things sometimes can tend to stagnate. It’s not only his musical talents that are to be desired when looking at ‘Beardyman’ as an example for the musicians, producers and other artists to aspire to. He also employs an excellent marketing strategy promoting himself through creative and artistic music videos that are sometimes more than just him performing, but also creative works of video too. If more artists could follow the trend that ‘Beardyman’ has set, pushing boundaries in and out of the studio, then a music industry which is still struggling to fully find its feet in this new digital age may just receive a new lease of life.
