So we tweeted on Saturday via the Rolling Stone that Simon Cowell is proposing to embark on his next SYCO TV series in the shape of a DJ Talent Show, most likely in the format of the highly popular X-Factor format. Since then, I've read quite a few blogs and reports from the likes of Mixmag who where less than optimistic, and gave the impression that a global audience watching Cowells show will decimate the dance music industry, and how our somewhat private industry is about to be overturned by the pop culture kiddies jumping on our band wagon.
A few days later and I come across a very freshing, different take on this possible ''Decks Factor'', or as digitaldjtips puts it ''Traktor Factor!''. If Cowells show can capture some real talent, it will serve as an education for the masses out there who are none the wiser about what is a good or bad DJ. And although the X Factor shows have brought out the bad and the ugly, Cowell is generally a master at unearthing real talent - that kind of talent that has never had a chance to show off what they can really do. It may raise the bar of what many are currently doing, and it should inspire a whole new generation of DJs.
That whole new generation of DJs could, in what is a testing economic time for the DJ industry, stimulate some serious sales growth for retailers and manufacturers alike.
It's plainly obvious the mobile market will be completely unaffected by any TV Show like this, but the possible uptake in interest for the new digital-wave Club DJs could see significant increases in sales, which in turn spurns new technology developments from manufacturers - and the more manufacturers can buy/produce, the lower the overall cost for the end user. I can see this only as a win-win for the DJ industry as a whole.
