    DJ Lasers

    10 April 2011
Lasers are stunning addition to any setup, and stand out head and shoulders above any other Light Fixture you will purchase. Even an entry level laser can look move expensive and visually stunning than a Pro Grade Light, with different colours now on the market, star cluster effects, animation, PC Link and so on the Laser market has some major players who take this field very seriously.

    Kam Lasers
Kam produce Lasers for the entry level up to Professional Grade Light show Users. From a cheap an cheerful standard single colour Step Laser to a full RGB Colour Mixing PC Linkable Laser, Kam have been at the forefront of Laser Technology and continue to pioneer the market.

    Lanta Lasers
Lanta offers a very sensible and extremely competitive selection of Lasers. Single colour Step Lasers, Animation, and Star Cluster effects are the main core of Lanta's offerings.

    QTX Light Lasers

Something a bit different? Take a look at the Plasa Laser from QTXLight, or the Moon star which also incorporates an LED Back Wash into the Laser show.

We also stock a selection of Laserworld Lasers - but this is a minimal offering as there range is very diverse. If you have seen a Laserworld Laser you like, contact us for availability as we should be able to order in it specially for you. There range starts from entry level sub £100 to high end Commercial use retailing over £15,000 each.

So when choosing a Laser what do want? There are many features so here's a quick overview of the favorites
    .

    Step Laser
Standard step Lasers will produce your flat Beams of light. Tunnel effects, flat beams, scanning and panning in a single or multi colour option. Mainly seen in Bars/Clubs as a center piece effect above the DJ Box.

Star Cluster / Cluster Laser / Diffraction Laser
Whatever you want to call it, a Star Cluster Laser will produce approx 200 beams on Light out of a single aperture. They are available usually in dual colour configurations, with the main favorite being Green & Red, although UV (Purple) & Red is also becoming a good seller on the mobile market.

    IDLA Lasers

IDLA is the connection which will allow your Laser to be connected to your PC/Laptop and be controlled via Software. The software will normally contain hundreds of preset patterns, but will also give you the option to upload your own logos, animation and create your own shows. Some Lasers will feature an SD Card instead, there Lasers require you to pre-configure you show on your Laptop, save the show to your SD Card and then insert the SD into your Lasers. Try not to confuse the 2!

    A common question we receive is regarding mW. mW (or milliwatts) is a unit of power equal to one thousandth of a watt. So a 500mW Laser, is half or 0.5 of a Watt. A few facts to note are the following;

Green requires less power to produce - 30mW of Green is the Mobile Standard for a Laser and is quite bright when lined up next to your LED and 250w Halogen Lights. But be careful, a 30mW Red Laser for example would be very dim, and this is because it requires more mW's to produce Red than it does Green. A side by side comparison for perceived brightness would be 30mW of Green, would require 80mW of Red to look the same brightness. This follows suit across other colours, Yellow require a mixture of both Green and Red, so naturally needs a higher mW than a standard colour. Blue and UV/Purple also requires very high mW ratings to give the same perceived brightness. This perceived brightness is reflected in price as well. Green lasers as you will find are very cheap, but the more extravagant the colour, the higher price as it requires a more expensive aperture in the Laser to produce that colour.

As with all Lighting we stock, Lasers come with a range of standard features such as Sound to Light, Auto Run and DMX Control.

A final word from us is on Laser Safety. Many people ask if Laser are illegal, and the answer is of-course not, but there are guidelines which you need to follow from the manufacturer to safely operate you Laser. These usually include not looking or pointing the Laser directly into people's vision, and there are diagrams and detailed information with each Laser as to the placement, and approx overhead head/angles to point your new fixture.
