LED Lights

LED Lighting has taken the entertainment industry by storm since it's inception around 04/05. At first the results where OK, the comparison is brightness to traditional Halogen fixtures was a cause for concern, but the effects being brought through a breathe of fresh air.

Moving into a new decade entry level LED Lights now emit the equivalent of a 250w Halogen Bulb and those initial concerns are now a thing of the past. As technology improves with what seems to be a new fixture every week you will notice much of our; and our competitors catalogs are out numbering the Halogen market by a considerable amount.

Kam, American DJ, Lanta, QTXSound, FXLab, Chauvet and many more manufacturers have re-vented their traditional fixtures such as Moon-flowers, Derby's, Par Cans, Disco Balls, Scanners and Barrels effect to incorporate LED Technology, and the advantages give you a clear idea why;

1. No duty cycles - LED lights last on average for upto 50,000 hours. A Halogen bulb normally lasts around 2,000 Max.
2. Lightweight - Improved Circuitry, Less or No Moving Parts reduce the overall fixtures weight
3. Cool Operation - LED Lights run extremely cool, in fact you won't even notice they have been on for hours!
4. Matrix Patterns, Gobos, Full Colour Mixing, DMX, are just a few of the features you can expect to find on many lights.

At DJs Only we have a real soft spot for LED Lights, they really are great, but due to the nature of the patterns they display sometimes it can seem like overkill with dots all over the place. So here's our top tips for using them;

1. Larger shows should use a variety of fixtures - Maybe try 2 scanners with 2 moonflower style effects
2. DMX - If you are tried of seeing the same shows buy a DMX Controller. The same shows can be integrated into LED Lights just the same way as Halogen fixtures.
3. Take a look at Up-lighters or the Par Bars from Kam. Up lighting and room Wash Effects add very classy and elegant look to your Lighting Show.
4. Buy a smoke machine - Remember what you see from your side of the DJ Box is dots, but add a smoke machine what your customer will see if vibrant, sharp, colourful beams of light shooting through the air.
5. To take things to the next level have a look at Moving Heads. There's nothing better than the visual pleasure of a Moving Head projecting Gobo's and Strobing it's way around a room.
